Vaughn Duffy Pinot Noir Suacci Vineyard, Sonoma 2019
Vineyard: Suacci Vineyard is a sustainably farmed vineyard located southwest of Sebastopol in Blucher Valley, just 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It has a track record of producing intensely complex wines that combine brooding fruit with aromatic spice. The vineyard’s cool climate produces tiny clusters and small berry sizes. The 6.5 acre vineyard was planted in 2001 to Dijon clones 115 and 777. We harvest from two blocks at Suacci picked about a week apart.
Vintage: The 2019 vintage was superb for Pinot Noir on the Sonoma Coast. A very wet spring led to a later start to the growing season. The crop load at Suacci was average and a cool harvest season allowed us to let the grapes mature slowly and to optimal ripeness.
Tasting Notes: The 2019 Suacci is a rich and juicy Pinot Noir. The wine shows aromatics of fresh-picked blackberries, cranberry and Christmas spices. On the palate the flavors follow with black cherry, tea and juicy strawberry. The bright acidity holds the wine together and leads to a long smooth finish.
